Bi-Weekly Meetings
Connections members meet over lunch on a bi-weekly basis to explore topics of diversity and inclusion. In the first meeting of a module, an educator or expert in an area presents their research as it relates to diversity and inclusion. This allows members to be exposed to a variety of topics, as many students are unaware of diversity issues and current research on these topics. In a subsequent meeting for a given module, Connections members engage in a dialogue session in "families" to further explore the topic through open conversation between members.
Discussions
We provide guidelines and structure to create a safe and trusting environment necessary for the sharing of alternative, sensitive, or even controversial experiences and viewpoints. This aspect is critical to the success of Connections as it allows for truly open dialogue on the basis of trust and understanding. Connections leaders undergo annual dialogue facilitation training.
Social Hours
Several times a semester we host social hours on or around campus where members gather to discuss informal topics outside of a learning environment. This collaborative space allows for social interaction, academic support, and fostering research collaborations. We alternate between hosting on the Danforth Campus and Medical Campus.
